Year 7 Transition
By now you will have applied through the County Council for a Year 7 place at Swavesey Village College. Places are issued by them on 2nd March (National Offer Day) and you are given 10 days to accept the place here. During the rest of March, SVC staff and students (our Year 9 transition mentors) visit each catchment primary school to talk about life at SVC. Year 6 can ask as many questions as they like!
This is followed in the summer term with a meeting called Year 6 Parents ‘Meet the Tutor’ evening on either 29th June, 30th June or 1st July 2026 (depending on which House your child is allocated to). This is where parents and children of Year 6 come in to have a talk given by senior staff, and then they meet their tutor with the other students who will also be in their tutor group.
On the last 3 days of term – 15th, 16th and 17th July 2026 – we have our Year 6 Induction Days, where all new Year 6 students come to us for 3 full days, following their proper timetables. This gives them a full range of experience in most of their subjects and they meet a lot of the different teachers they will have in September.

FAQs
Parent questions
How do I organise for my child to use the school bus?
Once school places are issued by the Admissions Office at Cambridgeshire County Council in March 2026 there is a process for Year 6 into 7 to ensure they are authorised to travel and have bus passes ready to access buses in September. You must do both steps 1 and 2. Deadline for the applications is by Friday 29th May 2026 (date to be confirmed).
- All Year 6 students must “Apply for School Transport” with Cambridgeshire County Council to get authorisation to travel. Please use the following link to do this https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/children-and-families/schools-learning/school-transport/pre-16-school-transport.
The County Council will ‘authorise’ your child to travel to Swavesey Village College with Cambridge Buses, and although the Council response will say the pass will be posted, that is not the case for SVC students. At Swavesey the bus pass will be emailed directly to you but only if you have completed step 2 below. You MUST follow step 2 below to receive a pass from Cambridge Buses: - IMPORTANT: To apply for the bus pass go to https://passenger.shuttleid.uk/waiting-list/5f038a85-3eb6-438d-aa19-32b9765ad287
- Please ensure the postcode matches the address given to Cambridgeshire County Council – a pass cannot be issued unless you have first registered with Cambridgeshire County Council as described in step 1.
- A parent email address is required to deliver the pass digitally.
- A parent mobile phone number is required to send service alerts once travel has commenced.
- Passes will be distributed by email in late-August once the bus company have a final list of all students from the County Council and have created appropriate bus routes to meet the need.

Where do I purchase school uniform from?
We have two providers, Chroma and Price & Buckland. Parents/carers are encouraged to make their purchases for the new school year in plenty of time to guarantee all items are ready for September.

A comprehensive list of our uniform and policy can be found here
Who do I contact in school to discuss my child’s transition?
The best people to talk to are your child’s house office once you know which House they are in (approximately June 2026). If there are any urgent questions before this, please email transitions@swaveseyvc.co.uk.

Welcome to Swavesey!
What time does school start?
The times of the school day are below:
Aim to be in school 10 minutes before the day starts at 8.50am, to allow you time to get to your form room.
Although the school day finishes at 3.10pm, there are many clubs after school on most nights that you might want to join. There is a late school bus available at a cost of £1 using bus tokens (tokens can be purchased via MCAS).
What will I need to bring?
You will need to bring a school bag, planner, packed lunch if you are having it, and the equipment in the following list to be ready to learn:
Will I get lost?
The answer is, most probably! However, you will be given a map and there will be lots of students and staff who will want to help you. Don’t worry, it will soon feel like home. Here is a copy of our map, so you can start to get your head round it:
