Lifeskills (PSHRE) Curriculum
Our Personal, Social, Health, Relationship and Economic Education (PSHRE) is covered through a variety of methods at SVC. Some content is covered through individual curriculum areas, however the main bulk is addressed through our Lifeskills sessions that take place every Thursday morning during form time. Some topics are also addressed through House Assemblies, House Year Group Assemblies and our Values and Experience Days. All sessions are age and stage appropriate. The vast majority of our resources used are approved by the PSHE Association.
Values and Experience Days
Throughout the year, there are four collapsed timetable days where the normal curriculum is suspended and students participate in an alternative learning experience linked to one of six various themes stated below. This is intended to develop our students’ personal well-being, social skills, economic wellbeing and understanding, career development, appreciating their rights and responsibilities in society, and teaching tolerance of diversity and global citizenship. The six strands that are covered throughout the five years at SVC are:
- Careers and personal finance
- Relationships and social skills
- Learning and study skills
- Culture and citizenship
- Health and personal safety
- Teamwork and soft skills
The activities involve sessions delivered by external agencies or our business partners as well as our Swavesey Village College staff. Some external educational visits take place on these days and students will be issued with an application letter at least a month before the visit. An email message will be sent out the week before the days informing parents of what each year group will be involved with. See below the overview of content that is covered in these sessions over the course of the year.
