Boxercise

Boxercise is an exercise class based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but a typical one may involve shadow-boxing, skipping, hitting pads, kicking punchbags, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups. Most boxercise classes are aimed at men and women of all ages and fitness standards. As no class involves the physical hitting of an opponent, it is a fun, challenging and safe workout that is also great for stress relief.
 
Circuit Training
8.15 - 9.15  10 weeks £43.00/£32.00 Swavesey Village College
Circuit training is a combination of high intensity aerobics and resistance training designed to be easy to follow and target fat loss, muscle building and heart fitness. An exercise "circuit" is one completion of all prescribed exercises in the program. When one circuit is complete, one begins the first exercise again for another circuit. Traditionally, the time between exercises in circuit training is short, often with rapid movement to the next exercise.
 
Relaxing Hatha Yoga
6.30 - 8.00pm10 weeks £64.00/£48.00 Swavesey Village College
A relaxing hatha yoga class comprising of warm-up exercises, followed by yoga postures (asana), relaxation, breathing and meditation.
Release physical tension - relax the breath - calm the mind.

Tai Chi Chuan - Yang Style (beginners welcome) - NEW
7.30 - 9.00pm 10 weeks £64.00/£48.00 Swavesey Village College
This course will introduce the new learner to the study of the Chinese Internal Art of Tai Chi Chuan. Learners will learn the Traditional Yang style Long Form and associated Qi Gong (Chi Kung) exercises. Continuing learners with less than one full year of training will continue with the same objectives and a revised lesson plan to enable them to research and develop their Tai Chi and Qi Gong Skills.

The course aims to help learners acquire a full and rounded understanding of Yang style Tai Chi Chuan, thereby promoting physical and mental harmony, bringing greater awareness of the body and developing Chi (Qi) the body’s internal energy or “life force”.

The Course objectives;
 to promote relaxation, improved coordination and the release of stress and tension when practicing the Tai Chi form and associated Qi King exercises
 to improve learner muscle tone, posture and balance to improve the learners blood and Qi flow, their calmness, alertness and confidence
 to improve the learners flexibility and suppleness by undertaking various muscles and tendon stretching exercise
 to introduce the learner to TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) and the 3 treasures Qi, Jing and Shen
 to introduce the principles of Yin & Yang and Meridian theory
 to introduce the guide learners in maximising their breathing capacity through abdominal breathing
 to learn the Traditional Yang Style Tai Chi Form and continue to develop Tai Chi skills with regular practice at home, between weekly classroom sessions
 learners to be able to demonstrate the Wu Chi, Bow and Cat stances and know the characteristics that lead to performing them correctly
 to provide the learners with handouts showing the Tai Chi Form movements
 to provide individual and group form corrections as required, and to encourage learners to ask questions to further develop their skills and application
 to ensure the learner has a full and well rounded understanding of the health, meditative and martial (self defence) aspects of Tai Chi Chuan
 to provide a learner with instruction and practice of the Tai Chi form, in readiness for completing the 1st and learning the 2nd section of the form, if the learner wishes to continue with his/her practice in forthcoming terms
 to provide a firm theoretical and practical base for the learners to start learning and internalising the principles of Tai Chi.

 Traditional Spanish Cookery - NEW
7.00 - 9.00pm 5 weeks £43.00/£32.00 (materials extra)Swavesey Village College
On this course you will learn how to prepare traditional authentic Spanish dishes. The teacher will share her native cookery experiences passed down through generations.

Beginning with easy dishes like Spanish Omelette and tapas. Students will increase their knowledge of Spanish food and develop their skills in order to prepare more complex dishes such as Paella.
