Examination Results

‘Swavesey Village College is celebrating another set of outstanding GCSE results.

99% of students achieved ‘5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE or equivalent’ – a 3% increase on last year and the first time that every student completing their education at Swavesey Village College achieved this significant benchmark. The remaining 2% are those students on Swavesey’s roll who are educated elsewhere.

81% of students achieved ‘5 or more C grades including English and Maths’ against 77% in 2008. There has been a significant jump in the number of students achieving A*-A grades in the cores subjects : Maths – 31%, English – 36% and 38% across the range of Science courses. Overall 36% of GCSE entries were A and A* grades.

The results reflect the hard work of students and staff and Swavesey’s commitment to providing every student with a relevant curriculum, high quality teaching and rigorous support to ensure that every one of them achieves.

The College is also delighted with the success of students from other schools who have taken vocational courses at Swavesey – this bodes well for the increasing collaboration between schools on the new Diploma qualifications.’

On Wednesday 13th January, the Department for Children, Schools and Families published the National Performance Tables for the 2009 GCSE Results. The results for Cambridgeshire can be found http://www.dcsf.gov.uk/performancetables/schools_09.shtml . The Tables confirm the outstanding achievement of students at Swavesey in 2009, by both Cambridgeshire and national benchmarks.
