Curriculum
In Key Stage Three students follow a curriculum designed to give them a taste of all of the major subject areas available to them. They study the core subjects: Maths, English and Science for three hours a week. They also study PE, Music, IT, History, Art, Technology, Geography, RE and at least one foreign language. SVC is committed to encouraging students to engage with the feelings of others and to develop the confidence to express and explore their feelings, as a result all KS3 students also have 1 period a week of Drama. As the Key Stage progresses greater opportunities are available to specialise or group students by ability.
At Key Stage Four, students are guided through the design of their curriculum. All students study English, Maths and Science but a variety of pathways to success are made available; to support those who find the work difficult and to stretch the most able. The entire cohort also study Religion and Philosophical Perspectives, IT (following the CIDA qualification they start in Year 9) and PE (non-certificated). Students are then offered a wide range of other courses to follow to provide them with an individually tailored route to success (see this years options booklet).
