Art"There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others who, thanks to their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun." Pablo Picasso

"I found I could say things with colour and shapes that I couldn't say any other way - things I had no words for." Georgia O'Keeffe

‘We believe all pupils should have the opportunity to be artistically creative.’

The Art department offers a broad range of skills, both 2D and 3D, students are encouraged to personalise their work, strive to do more than they believe they can and gain the
confidence to think beyond the structure of their art lessons.

The emphasis at KS3 is to encourage skills in a range of media from drawing to ceramics as well as developing an appreciation of artists and their work, cultural styles and an understanding of the historical context this engenders. Projects range from individual to group and work is often displayed around the school.

At KS4 techniques in different media are taught, experimentation is encouraged and Art history becomes more important to the context of their work. All types of media are encouraged, but ultimately students choose the area they wish to specialise in, this may range from watercolour to ceramics, acrylic to collage.
