The school also works in partnership with local organisations to present a number of arts events in our venue which are open to the public but also offer our students opportunities to get involved, by helping to organise them and by participating.

Annual Arts Events for the Community

Cambridge Open Art Exhibition

A large exhibition of around 280 artworks from 95 adult artists, taking place every autumn at the school. The exhibition takes place over three days, Friday to Sunday, with Preview Reception on the Friday. The event also includes artists’ stalls selling handmade gifts, cards and small artworks, as well as children’s activities, installations and a café. Students are involved in raising the exhibition, working alongside the amazing team of volunteer artists who bring the event together.

Energise Dance Showcase

A youth dance showcase for the region which has been running since 2009. Energise has two different shows, matinee and evening, taking place on the last Saturday in January. We have around 20 dance schools who take part every year. It’s a great chance for young people to perform on stage, with professional sound and lighting, to a large audience of friends and family.

The event is organised in collaboration with April Burgess Martin School of Ballet (founder) and Jack Stinton Dance.

Summer Rock School

A three-day course during the summer holidays for young people (age 11 to 18). The course is orientated towards building students’ performance skills, focussing on performance preparation, band dynamics, stage skills, presentation, and including all aspects of preparation for a real gig!

Usually taking place 10am to 4pm each day with the finale gig at 7pm on the final day, in the Swavesey Venue, with professional sound and lighting.
