Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a leading youth Charity that gives all young people the chance to develop skills for work and life, fulfil their potential and have a brighter future. The DofE awards are internationally recognised and are held in high regard by colleges, universities and employers as they know the dedication, commitment and personal development it takes to complete the award.

What a DofE Programme consists of…

A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end.  It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, you just need to be aged between 14 and 24 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by. You can achieve the DofE award at three levels, bronze, silver and gold.  At SVC we offer bronze and the silver award.

Each award is a personal programme of activities consisting of 4 different sections – Volunteering, Physical, Skills and an Expedition. You’ll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills and going on an expedition. But the best bit is – you get to choose what you do! Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get you buzzing, and along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

‘I think that the Duke of Edinburgh has been one of the most challenging but amazing achievements I have ever taken on, it has been a real journey for me and one that I will never forget. I have learnt a lot about team work, orienteering and perseverance. I feel that I can use the same energy and perseverance in my studies to achieve higher than my predicted grades’.  Sam Price

‘This has been a new and valuable experience for me. At times it was hard but I am glad I did it in the end’ Becky Gleadell
